Rarely an individual receives an award for outstanding achievements in ones’ profession or in the industry. In Urban Design profession, largely, awards are a team effort of a group of people involved, throughout many years of the project life, and can and should be attributed in the same way. Following awards have been received for the projects Tatjana Medvedev participated in mainly as Lead Urban Designer while working for myriad of Victorian companies (listed where appropriate).

The Urban Design Team planned Arena to cater to the client’s vision of a safe and sustainable neighborhood for residents. Arena at Officer features 25% open space and makes use of the nature around the area for parks and recreation. Challenges faced by the team included having to work around the presence of an endangered frog species, and the Gum Scrub Creek being an important habitat corridor. The Urban Design Team managed to not only work around these challenges, but embraced them as highlights of the residential development.

NEXY - ADELAIDE

The Northern Expressway in South Australia is the biggest road construction project in the state since the 1960’s. The project boasts a four-lane expressway that joins Stuart Highway (at the Gawler Bypass) to Port Wakefield Road, and spans a distance of 23km. The expressway includes a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists, 11 bridge structures, and 6 interchanges.

The project also included an upgrade to Port Wakefield Road to account for increased traffic from the NEXY. The Expressway has provided a much smoother transition for cargo, trucks, and cars transport since its construction.

LAND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

LYNDARUM

WHITTLESEA

Commended for its excellence, Lyndarum North land development design delivered 1158 lots residential precinct. The design had an imposed infrastructure element to incorporate due to its sheer size. This complex project incorporated a number of research teams providing their professional expertise towards a successful planning permit approval. Existing services demanded separation of the precinct into 2 parcels: north and south. The Urban design task was to deliver connectivity throughout the estate and great variety of parcel sizes.

Only 27kms from the CBD, this exciting new development offers an abundance of parks, play areas, facilities for children and a proposed town centre and train station.

HIGHLANDS MASTEPLANNED

DEVELOPMENT

Client: Stockland

2013 UDIA National Excellence Award for Masterplanned Development

PROJECT BRIEF

The Urban Design Team was challenged with the task of creating an urban design masterplan and providing supporting documentation for Highlands first premium residential village. The brief outlined combining an existing hillside location, integrating the potential of new housing solutions and providing an overarching landscape character to create a sense of place for this new precinct at Mount Ridley.

CLIENT’S EXPECTATIONS:

The Masterplan had to meet design and commercial objectives and introduce new ideas that would represent Stockland as a leader in the industry while providing best liveable neighbourhoods.

Despite the gravest effort of this developer, not all green design ideas could be implemented.

Tatjana Medvedev collaborated with a large team of consultancies on this project as part of her previous portfolio.

ABOUT THE LOCATION, HISTORIC TIME, COUNCIL’S CULTURE AND THEIR ACCEPTANCE OF THE IDEAS:

The Team explored various housing products that suited sloping sites, Council’s hill top protection policy and environmental and sustainability initiatives. Open space strategy was created from a collaborative research workshop process where all ideas were on the table ,challenging structural functional and aesthetic principals to its best outcome.

This involved working with the Highlands Team, the Stockland National Design House and Hume City Council.

The result was a robust Masterplanned Vision document that met Stockland’s design and marketing objectives whilst including the
broader Project Commercial deliverables.
